My Top Three

The top three things that I want to learn from WWW Publishing of Technical Information are:

1. How to successfully design a website that is easy to navigate and easy to use. I believe that this is the most important thing in designing a website for technical information because it is easier to educate your audience if they can navigate and find the information they are looking for without much effort.

2. How to read my audience better. When designing a website the information that lies within needs to be presented to the audience in a manner that they will find interesting and engaging. I want to learn ways in which to gear what I write towards my audience and to avoid simply writing what I think should be in the website.

3. Design techniques. Along with being able to create useful and informative websites, I want to learn the different ways to layout and design a web page. I want to learn how one might lay out a fun and interactive site compared to a buisness' website full of information.

I would like to design a website for my girlfriend's father's company. He is a contractor and builds very nice homes. I think a website would be beneficial to his business because it would give him a place to showcase his work through uploaded photographs or even virtual tours.

  1. I have a similar idea for my first website. Since my boyfriend is a tattoo artist, I want to design a website for his works--pretty much an online portfolio, which clients can get his contact info and such, as well.

  2. Seems like a lot of us have the same ideas. I am wanting to redesign either the website for my girlfriend's jewelry business or my family's pharmacy.

  3. Good thinking through what you want to learn from this course. Seems to me knowing audience is crucial, as we've discussed during class. We'll talk layout and design and code, and tackling a website like the one you describe makes sense. You might start collecting content for it right away.
